Attention US-Based Merchants: Join Temu's New Initiative!
Temu, the renowned e-commerce platform known for unbeatable deals, has made a significant operational shift. In response to the closure of the de minimis tax loophole by the Trump administration, Temu has ceased order fulfillment from Chinese warehouses. Instead, the platform is transitioning to partnering with US-based sellers and warehouses.
This strategic change is designed to streamline compliance, boost efficiency, and champion local businesses. CNBC reports that Temu is actively seeking US sellers to join its platform.
Amidst tariff spikes reaching up to 145%, consumer prices are on the rise. Nevertheless, Temu ensures price stability for buyers, as domestic orders are exempt from import charges.
The impact of this decision is substantial, with a staggering increase in packages benefiting from this exemption. In 2024 alone, nearly 1.36 billion packages took advantage of this policy, marking a remarkable surge from just 140 million a decade ago.
While concerns exist about potential repercussions on low-income individuals, government data highlights the significant daily reliance on the de minimis provision, with almost four million shipments in 2024.

I'm curious about how many new US sellers will join Temu with this change.
